Masters Swimming
29th Long Course Championships
held at the Newton Park Indoor
Aquatic Centre in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape
from the 13th to the 16th of March 2012.
The Open Water Championships were held at Marina Martinique, Jeffreys Bay on the 18th.
2217 entries were received from 450 swimmers (216 women and 234 men) from 21 clubs.
2 were foreign swimmers from Great Britain and Ukraine.
426 swimmers eventually competed.
410 swimmers scored points for their club in individual races.
370 relay teams were entered.
There were 11 swimmers entered who were 80 years and older.
The oldest female competitor was
Kascha Kloos (88).
The oldest male competitor was Ted Beukes (83).
In the Open Water events 179 swimmers entered and 140 finally competed.

In the Individual Events:
1 World Record was broken.

17 South African Records were broken or established by 6 different clubs.
COLOURS
South African Masters Swimming Colours qualifying times were bettered 82 times by 27 different South African Swimmers during the championships.
28 swimmers (16 women & 11 men) who qualified throughout the 2012/2013 season were awarded their Colours.
3 swimmers who had qualified on time in previous years and had now competed in their 3rd championships were awarded their Colours.
In addition there were 5 swimmers who qualified on time in the 2012/2013 season but have yet to fulfil the requirement of participation in 3 National Long Course Championships.
In the 3Km Open Water event on Sunday an additional 7 swimmers (5 women and 2 men) achieved SAMS Colours qualifying times.
